I was a Drill Sergeant in B Battery 2/80th FA from 1989 to 1990. I was there when the 2/80th got closed down and got reassigned to E 3/321st Fa for my final year. I remember the fire out of the 8 inch because we were on the range when this happened. What Battery were you in.

i was in a battery 2/80 2nd platoon basic training.this was not the time when the fatalities occured, but a short time afterwards.i remember all of the fear and talk of going out onto the firing range because of what had happened before, then without warning you could hear the wistle of the incoming rounds and the d/s was yelling take cover and the yelling for cease fire out over the radio.he was yelling so loud they may have heard his voice.i was standing out on the range near a fox hole must had been 4+ rounds this day hit just outside the firing range.no fatalities this day,we was lucky.did they usually fire that close for a reason?i thought maybe since we was training w/the possibility of heading to desert shield maybe they wanted to get some close to us? 2nd platoon was frazier, mitchell, coleman, and cook.drill sergeants.coleman ended up dusting me pretty good afterwards for just standing there outside the foxhole trying to see them coming in.

Tim,
I know just about all those names you mentioned, But who the hell are you, Tim?? I must know you you 'cause I was in Korea the same time as you were. I trained with the cohort unit at Fort Sill in '89 but didn't go until '90. Sgt McCardle and I ran 2nd Firing platoon. Our tour there was pretty cool. We had our job to do, but when we finally got the word that the unit was being de-activated we couldn't wait to convoy south, fire our missiles into the Yellow Sea and board the plane back to The States. Korea was my last tour. From there I ETSed to The Presideo and then back home. Kinda miss the old days. But then, I've been drinkin'.....

I remember Efta when I got to 6/33rd FA at Sill and he was a Sp4 promotable. He was always being buddy with Top Montgomery (as in Wards). We used to go around saying,"What do you get when you take the E out of Efta?"...
