Yes, the W-70 was the neutron bomb. It was all over the news a few years back- remember the chinese dude that was accused of spying for communist China, and they supposedly got all of our secets for the W-70 neutron bomb- that was us. The idea was that when the godless commies poured over the border, we could irradiate the hell out of them but leave the braueries intact!

well until a about a week ago i did not know what a neutron bomb was.

someone had told me about this weapon at school, however i took his talk with some skepticism. Later i was wathcing a documentry on vietnam and saw a protester carrying a sign that said "no neutron bomb". after seeing that i became very interested in the speculation about the bomb...if it exists then the bomb would had been a very powerfull cold war weapon...however now that we have won, i hope, the cold war i would like to know in what type of situation the bomb may be utilized in and in what countries just curious

he "Neutron Bomb" as it is commonly called which is an enhanced radiation device. Its main advantage was to project highly enhanced gamma radiation which is able to penetrate heavy armor. The blast and heat are confined to a few hundred yards but the neutron and gamma radiation spread some farther. It is very destructive to human tissue and the benifits include armor that will project radiation. Because of its short life span and distance it would not endanger cities or populations. Can be carried by LANCe, 8 inch (200 milimeter) howitzeers or aircrat. Production was halted in 1978 and resumed in 1981.
