I spent time in both, line and detachments, Crailsheim('85-'88)83rd USAFAD(89-92) 84th USAFAD('81-'83). Most fun I ever had was my first in the 84th. Young, dumb and full of you know what. Thought I'd throw a little love out to those other little sister's of the poor who spent time in detachments as well. If you were one of the lucky few to have been in Grossengstigen drop a line and we'll chat up the good times.

Russ,
Wow, good to see someone from the past. I do remember Maynard, funny SOB, was also a mail courier. Silas was the other cook who laughed at everything. How about Mossey, Rowe, Ochoa, my buddy Bill Doyle, my roommate Lyons (Blaine) and who could ever forget the "FROG", our beloved 1SG with the Trans-ams. That was a great first duty station. How about playing team handball for PT all of the time? Believe it or not I became a LANCE instructor and did some time in a line unit before getting out of the Army in May '92 graduated from college '98 and work as a Environmental Engineer for NCDOT. I'm noe living in Raleigh, NC. You were in Augsburg, unbelievable, my brother was stationed there from 85-88 and I visited him all the time. I spent alot of time in the Sheridan Kaserne NCO club. I was also with 17th FA, LANCE 2/42 in Crailsheim from '85-'88. How's life treating you since the good ole bad days? I do recall many a night with you in the "Rose" cafe. Drop me a line at marklaugisch@aol.com, Good to hear from you Russ.

Mark

Hey Mark,

I used to be stationed at the 83rd USAFAD in Montebaur, 86 - 89. When did they de-activate the unit. That place, the whole country was the best time of my life.

M Wilson,
We closed the doors in May '92. The fall of the Berlin wall marked the end of LANCE and for the 83rd. Montabaur wasn't bad duty station, especially since we didn't have a site to guard, but the leadership when I was there from the 1SG and Det commander was down right awful. I must have just missed you as I got there in Nov '89.

Lewis,
Damn glad to hear from you. I guess I should have posted it earlier, but I went and created a message board just for the 84th USAFAD. Go to: http://www.84thusafad.org and log in and check out what we have been up to.

Hey Mark, Chris! Good to hear from you guys. Chris-I don't know what happened to the other Lewis. The last thing I heard from Giddings was that he was still in Crailsheim. That was back in '95-96.

Mark- I'm going to check out the site soon. I just got my computer back up. I was suffering from an acute case of Windows ME-a sitis. I'm having trouble with a device driver causing it to restart all the time.
