I was in Svc Btry. Ran with a loud crowd. Dave Reed, Bruce Davis, Vance Harvey, Eddie Kruise, etc... hung out at the Irish Pub a lot. Hung out with James Smith (Smitty the Bn Cdr's driver), Castro. My girlfriend (now wife) had a white '73 VW beetle with all pics of James Dean plastered on it. It sat out in the parking lot between the buildings a lot. Were you in Crete in '87? It was the only year that we went in the middle of the summer. BTW, was Tree in A Btry or B Btry?

Yep...I was in Crete in 87'...we took a btry trip around the island...wow! By "tree" do you mean Rucci..he was 6'6" if so he was in my section in A btry.

We took that trip too... Hersonisas (sp?) was bad@$$!! We went down with C Btry. Went to Chania beach after firing and there was a spiked watermelon (on top of all the beer and ouzo)!! That was the best Crete trip we made! The Tree I meant was Roger Leeman. Now that I think about it he was in B Btry I think.

The Irish Pub? It's the late bar where everyone made the procession from Gatsby's when it closed for the night. Great "bar" bar. Anyone know whatever became of Steve Mulherin or Brady Glass? Two of my favorite characters.

Great website. Remember how hush hush and classified all that info was when Lance was still active? CFRD, SFRD, Secret, and all. But then again they did their surety tests (verbal Q/A with all of that) by the fence of the motorpool, within earshot of anyone walking by... It looks strange seeing the tech data on a website, kinda want to throw a towel over the monitor before a spy sees it through the blinds :)

Lance did attract a smart bunch of people - the barracks were more of a college crowd. Tony, you're the one who got me reading HS Thompson, and corrupted my skull full of mush. Best wishes to all!

these inspections you talked about are called nsi inspections.in 1981 a-btry a&t section was the first to do this inspection without using our manuals.we even were wrote about in the f/a journal.

The barracks at 3/12 were a ZOO full of wild freaks!! Always some kind of wierdness going on for those who chose to find it. Lots of guys that were there to get away from all the trouble they were in at home... talk about out of the pan and into the fire. Aschaffenburg was a great town to be stationed in. Right between Frankfurt and Wuerzburg and plenty to do right there.

I was part of B 3/12 from 88 - 90. I was back in Europe recently and stopped by Aschaffenburg for a day. The entire barracks have been converted to civilian housing, with all of the rooms now having decks/porches/etc. I wasn't able to get inside to see any, but they looked nice - at least better than when we were there!

Just trolling for fellow 3/12 A-burg'ers who might know me & vice versa. I was there 89 through 91, ETA'd just before it all folded.

Hey John!

I think you had already ETSed before we got shut down and "merged" with 1/32nd in Hanau. They had already begun on the renovations to the barracks as we were leaving.

I liked both stations there in germany but I really hated being stationed in Ft. Sill. Went ahead and took the early out when they were converting us to MLRS. Didn't really want to go through AIT again.

Had some really good times there at 3/12. Hoping to go back to Europe soon myself and see how much things have changed in 12 years.

Anyway I'll see ya around man!

Hello,

I was in Aschaffenburg (A 3/12) from June 1990 to the summer of 1991 when the unit merged with A 1/32 in Hanau. I loved my time in Germany and Aschaffenburg. With all the other units deployed during the Gulf War it seemed like all we did was pull guard duty and party. Hanau wasn't as fun for me. A 1/32 was full of problems--gangs etc. I did get my own room though as an E4 and that was pretty cool.

Anybody know Steve Stinson or Bryce Mason?

By the way I have been back to Europe and some things don't change. German food, beer, and women are great! I love the culture!!
